HK-451 took out an eyeball, rubbed it on the curtain, and popped it back in.

"Does it do anything cool?" Steve asked in a whisper.

"Not really," Randy answered, laying out his deck with the Mech War Battle Droid--the most collectible card on the planet.

"Can it talk?"

"Nope."

"Fly?"

"Nope."

"Shoot lasers?"

"Nope."

"What good is a robot that doesn't do anything?"

"I dunno. Dad brought it home because it's broke or something."

"What a waste!"

"Yup."

Steve sat down next to Randy and pulled out his own deck, thumbing through them. He looked at Randy's Battle Droid card with a longing gaze, but went back to his deck when the other boy looked up.

"Did you hear that?" Randy asked.

"No, what?"

"That!" As he spoke, two guys walked in with machine guns.

"Are you Randy Utgarde?"

"Y-y-yessir."

"Where's your Mech War Battle Droid card?"

"You're kidding, right?" Steve yelled.

"Shut up, kid. Don't give me a reason to hurt you."

Just then, HK-451 stood up and walked forward. At seven feet tall, he towered over even the men and their guns.

"Holy--!" the first guy started.

"What is that thing?" the second guy asked.

HK-451 seemed to consider them for a moment, then he plucked out his other eye, reached over, and wiped it on the first guy's shirt.

"I'm getting out of here, this was supposed to be an easy job!"

"I'm right behind you!" The two guys fled without looking back.

The boys ran to the window and watched them going down the street. When they were sure the two robbers were gone, they turned around to HK, who was polishing a smudge on his chestplate.

"You're even better than a Battle Droid, HK!"

The challenge today was to write a story containing a Mecha (humanoid robot who likes to shoot stuff and be totally awesome) and an Accidental Hero, one played straight, one inverted.

I don't know if this counts, but my inverted Mecha was the Accidental Hero. Hopefully.
